10 tips when renovating your kitchen

Often when you are starting your kitchen makeover, it can be easy to get caught up in all the colour schemes, tiles, worktop materials and so on. It can be easy to forget the little things that will help with the whole process. So, we have created our 10 tips when renovating your kitchen, so you don’t have to worry that you may have forgotten something.

Kitchen

1. Cater for your space!

If you have a small kitchen and aren’t planning on extending that space at all, you must not forget about the actual size you have to work with! Achieving your dream kitchen is always possible but, we have to be realistic. Rather than cramming things into a small space that just won’t work, consider utilising that space and finding ways to make the most of it. You may have wanted a large island in your dream kitchen and your current kitchen is just not quite practical enough. That’s when you can reconsider things like a breakfast bar in the corner of the room to really open up the area. Cannadines will always be honest and find an effective way to make your vision come to life. If an extension isn’t on the cards then make sure you’re planning for the space you actually have.

2. Think about storage

Renovating and remodelling a kitchen is an exciting time, but it’s very easy to forget actual real life and living in that kitchen. Think ahead and think about the storage. You want it to be a kitchen that grows with you, so really you want as much storage as possible. Secret cupboards and storage are the best way to hide those pots and pans, whilst also creating enough storage and keeping the kitchen spacious and open. From overhead cupboards to sliding-out drawers, there are so many areas to add to a bt more storage space without it being obvious. Cannadines has a great range of storage units with multiple colours and materials, so they will match the theme and aesthetic of your kitchen.

3. Add some colour

We have created some really colourful kitchens in the past. From beautiful pinks and vibrant blues, we don’t shy away from colour. But, if you are not all about a huge statement wall or bright blue island, think about adding small extras where you can. If you like a neutral kitchen but don’t want it to be dull, add beautiful accent colours. Whether it’s the utensils and tea towels or the kitchen appliances, don’t be scared to show some personality with colours and patterns.

4. Look into kitchen technology

It’s 2023 and technology is everywhere, even in kitchens. There are so many tech-savvy extras you can add to your kitchen to make it more modern and convenient to use. From hot water taps & speakers installed in the walls, through to Smart appliances. There really is an endless list of technology you can incorporate into your new kitchen. Please ask when you enquire as we can offer many suggestions.

5. Play with lighting!

Gone are the days of bright overhead lights in your kitchen 24/7! A kitchen is no longer just for cooking, it’s a communal area. It’s the place where parties happen and dancing in the kitchen begins, so why not add some lights that can switch up the look? LEDs are incredibly popular and incredibly easy to use and install. The best part of LED lights is that you can add them around cupboards, doors and along the floor; you can also have a colour-changing option. You know what we were saying about adding some colour? Well you can quite literally do that and change the entire look of your kitchen, all with a flick of a switch.

6. Think Sustainably

The likelihood of you having a whole new kitchen and wanting it to last for years is high, so think sustainably. Think about energy-efficient appliances and good quality long-lasting cabinets and worktops. Really think to yourself, what can I use to make it as sustainable as it can be? It can often be really simple switches like energy-saving lightbulbs and electrics. Perhaps you want to look even further into you and your family being more sustainable, such as installing separate recycling and non-recycling bins can make your family life easier, whilst being eco-friendly.

7. Explore different floors!

Flooring designs, styles and materials can make a huge impact on the whole look of your kitchen. If you are going for a natural, fresh-style kitchen, consider a wood look floor. Perhaps you want a modern smart stylish finish, maybe go for a grey to complement the modern look? Or perhaps you are creating a beautifully traditional kitchen, you could look into a really traditional style tile floor. Don’t be shy to have a really great feature floor, especially if you are thinking about a very neutral kitchen, having a statement floor can really play off and elevate the room. Vinyl flooring is the cheapest option for you and there are many fun and unusual patterns here, so this where you could create something really special, but you could always look to change it a few years down the line, if you wanted to.

8. Consider adding space

Sometimes your dream kitchen doesn’t match up with the size of your current kitchen. To achieve those dreams you might need to perhaps knock down a wall to expand that area. Expanding your kitchen and making it larger can open you up to so much more potential. Larger units and appliances can now fit and you can achieve the exact look you are after. Don’t be afraid to extend the kitchen space. The Cannadines team understands that creating a big change can be scary, but we are with you every step of the way and can reassure you that your end goal and dream kitchen are in sight. It may be that you need to extend, or perhaps you remove the utility room to open the space up. Or perhaps knock down a wall between the dining room and kitchen, if possible, which will give you a much larger area to work with.

9. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!

Sometimes we can get caught up in the exciting process of a new kitchen, which is great! But, if you have an old kitchen that is getting a little re-vamp, why not consider keeping some of the old features and incorporating it in your new room? A renovation is just that, it’s not always about wiping the slate clean but more about making the space the best it can be. Maybe there’s a really old wall you’d like to keep exposed or perhaps you’ve always loved the taps and pipes, if it isn’t broken don’t fix it! It’s your new kitchen and if you want some things to stay then, of course, they can!
