The Brief
We recently carried out a luxury bathroom renovation in Crowborough. The client, Paul Gibson, came to us at Cannadines looking to completely upgrade a bathroom that was between 20 and 25 years old. The bathroom was tired and dated, and the brief was clear, they wanted a luxurious, modern feel with both a shower cubicle and a free-standing bath in the same room.
This was a full bathroom design, supply and installation project, and one that came with some real challenges given the age and character of the property.
The Challenges
The property itself is approximately 150 years old, making this a period property bathroom renovation with a number of difficulties that our installation team had to work around for this luxury bathroom renovation. The walls were original lath and plaster construction and out of alignment – something that requires careful planning and skilled work to deal with properly.
The biggest challenge was making the layout work. To fit both the shower cubicle and the free-standing bath, we needed to gain more room within the bathroom. The existing airing cupboard and hot water storage unit were taking up a significant amount of the room, so these had to be completely removed. To replace the hot water system, we installed a new pressurised system up in the loft above, freeing up the room below. This gave us enough room to install an 800mm square shower cubicle alongside the bath.
On top of this, the client wanted a wall hung toilet and the basin relocated to the opposite side of the room from where it originally sat.
The Design
The brushed brass finish was chosen as the signature detail throughout, tying the whole room together and giving it a consistent, high-quality look.
The layout was completely rearranged to make the most of every part of the room. Moving the airing cupboard contents to the loft and repositioning the basin and wall hung toilet meant the bathroom now feels much bigger than it did before.

The Result
The whole bathroom installation took three weeks from start to finish. The room now has a luxurious, modern feel and feels much bigger than it did before the renovation. The combination of the Karndean oak flooring, honed marble tiles and brushed brass fittings gives the bathroom real warmth and character, while the free-standing roll top bath and shower cubicle give it the luxury that our customer was after.
