Still Want That Office At Home?

There are so many people still working from home. A lot have now gone back into the office for part of the week but there are still a large number of people who WFH for some of the working week. We don’t think this will change as we are getting more and more enquiries from customers who are finally wanting to create something spacious and effective at home.

Storage Solutions

If you need to store printers, paperwork, files or more, then floor to ceiling cupboards are a great option. They don’t take up much room and have loads of space to store a lot of equipment. Most home offices aren’t very big. Studies that are pre-built in homes are often only a maximum of 8ft x 8ft (we are old school!) so space is always at a premium and requires good planning.

The whole point of good storage is to ensure everything is tucked away in an orderly fashion and not on show. It makes working more efficient as well as looking very neat and tidy.

Drawers within the cupboards are useful as well as plenty of shelving.

Bespoke cupboards can also fit in anything else that you previously stored within your office space. Ironing boards, tumble dryers, vacuum cleaners are all large and bulky objects that need to be hidden away. The office may have been a “dumping ground” for all those extra home essentials, so ensure you account for everything necessary when chatting to us about your requirements.

Desk Space

How big does your desk need to be? Do you consistently work with two large monitors? Some even work with three, so will need a large expanse of desk space. Obviously not all are like this, but you need to ensure that you have sufficient room to work effectively. When working from home is a permanent option, then having a small cheapĀ  desk on wheels really won’t cut it. You want something comfortable that won’t affect your posture, back or neck. So this all needs thinking about when it comes to allocating the necessary space. Plus the chair needs thinking about – don’t just drag in one of the dining room chairs!

Lighting

Ensure you have enough light in your office. But don’t overdo it. For instance, try not to put your desk under a window – the natural and often bright light that comes in behind your monitor when your desk sits in front of your window may seem like a good idea, but can cause headaches for many. So try and make sure you sit side on to your window, to avoid reflections as well as too much contrast between light and dark.

A desk lamp is always useful for those dreary days or if you are working once it is dark. As well as this subtle under cupboard lights are good, or perhaps a softly lit side or table lamp. It is all about effective working with no distractions.

Choice of Colours and Cupboards

We can design and create you something that you will love. Whether it is a sleek glossy slab effect in white, grey, navy or black, we can give you all the options. Or maybe you will want the more traditional wood for your office that seamlessly blends with the desk as well as possibly doors and skirting boards. Or maybe painted wood panelling will be the design choice and this opens up so many more colour choices. Just let us know what you think you would like and we can take it from there.

Keeping it Neat

Working from home often means that you are required for Zoom or Teams meetings and so behind your desk will always be noticed by everyone you meet with. So keep it tidy! A floor to ceiling cupbaord will work well with a nice colour and perhaps panelled wood.

However if your storage does not sit behind you, then you may choose a small built in sideboard where you can display some nice ornaments, as well as appropriate artwork. Choose wisely here – you never know who you may need to speak to!
